Q: Will this meter work for me?
A: If you have a strong WiFi signal at your propane tank, you should have no issues with connectivity. Please check your signal prior to ordering. You will also need an apple/android smart phone or tablet to configure the WiFi credentials.
Q: Is the smart meter compatible with any propane gauge face? What if my gauge face is not R3D compatible?
A: Your gauge face must be remote ready. Check our gauge face chart for compatibility. Your supplier can easily swap out your gauge face for you. Have them contact us if they have questions.
Q: Do I need professional installation?
A: No. If your gauge is R3D-ready, the install is easy and quick. No electricians, plumbers, or technicians are needed for installation. Instructions are here.
Q: As a consumer, how much will this cost me per month?
A: Nothing. There are no monthly fees for our basic service of remotely accessing your tank level with a smart phone, tablet, or computer.
Q: What if I don’t have the internet at my house?
A: This product is not ideal for you. We’re working on a solution for you, so make sure you’re signed up for our newsletter.
Q: What are you doing with my data?
A: Our intentions are to help you see your current fuel level and historic consumption. Knowledge is power, and we hope you will use the data to prevent run-outs and be more energy efficient. We won’t share your consumption history with anyone unless you tell us to– and we’re sure you’re going to benefit.
Q: I have a really neat idea: Can this device work with Wink, SmartThings, Iris, IFTT, Nest, Alarm.com, or another IoT / smart home platform?
A: Possibly. We have built the critical functionality, but we’re open to hearing your ideas and solving your problems. We’re open to exposing our API so that you can leverage your tank level data in new and novel ways, but that’s not available just yet.
Q: Does this propane smart meter read my tank’s pressure or the volume used?
A: Using the mechanical float located inside your tank, our device measures the volume of your liquid propane as a percent. Volumetric consumption is derived from the percentage and your tank size.
Q: What if I want to share my tank’s level with my propane supplier?
A: We are happy to help make that happen. Please email us!
Q: Can i monitor multiple tanks?
A: Yes, you can have as many tank level monitors as you need and monitor your tank levels individually. To differentiate your tanks in the app, you can customize the name of your tanks. If you have one or more tanks that feed a common regulator (in parallel), you only need a single monitor for those tanks since the level of both tanks will be roughly the same.
Q: How often does the device send readings?
A: The WiFi monitor connects to the internet every 6 hours to send a reading. Between those data transmissions, the device enters a deep sleep mode to conserve battery life.
Q: How long will the batteries last?
A: The WiFi monitor’s batteries will last 2.5 years or more. Once the batteries start to run low, you’ll be notified. The batteries are 3 AA’s and are field-replaceable.
Q: Is there a warranty?
A: There is a 1 year limited manufacturer's warranty.
Q: Will the monitor be able to handle harsh winter weather?
A: The monitor is waterproof and rated to handle temperatures down to -40 Fahrenheit or -40 Celsius.
Q: What’s the MAC address of my device?
A: The MAC address of each device is unique and follows this pattern: 6c:0b:84:XX:XX:XX
