Battery Information for the Tank Utility Propane Tank Monitor

Tank Utility monitors are designed for intrinsic safety, to ensure maximum safety of monitors mounted on or near propane tanks. When replacing the batteries in your monitor you must use Energizer L91 Ultimate Lithium AA batteries.

Using a different model of battery will compromise the intrinsically safe design of the monitor and voids the warranty. Additionally, alternate battery options do not perform in the temperature ranges your monitor experiences while mounted on your tank and may cause the monitor not to work properly.

Where Can You Get Energizer L91 AA Lithium Batteries?

These batteries are available anywhere you buy batteries and should be easy to find in Walmart, Target, Home Depot, Lowes or your local hardware store. You can also purchase on Amazon at the following link.

We cannot guarantee performance of the tank monitor with other AA battery types and our warranty is void when you use a different battery model.

When Do I Need To Replace Batteries?

At Tank Utility, we want to make sure your tank monitor works at peak performance to ensure you keep warm year around! That’s why we are one of the few propane and oil tank monitors that use batteries you can replace yourself in less than 2 minutes!

Our tank monitor will last for 3-5 years on the batteries we include with the tank monitor (assuming normal usage and connectivity access) but when you need to change out the batteries it is easy to do so! If your monitor is unable to send a reading, changing the batteries may be the issue. If you do so and still can’t connect please contact our support team.

Battery Replacement Instructions

To replace your batteries you’ll need a #1 phillips head screwdriver while following the instructions below:

  1. Un-attach the monitor and take it at least 6 feet from your propane tank
  2. Turn over the device and locate the 4 screws on the bottom of the tank monitor
  3. Remove the 4 screws from the tabs on the enclosure and remove the base. (Batteries must be unused Energizer Ultimate Lithium L91. Using used batteries or a different model void the warranty)
  4. When closing the monitor, attach the base with screws fastened tightly, to 9 inch-pounds (Failure to tighten properly will void the warranty)
  5. Ensure your tank monitor is re-attached correctly to the dial on your tank
  6. After replacing the batteries the monitor will send a reading immediately so you don’t have to do anything to reconnect (You may, however, see the three green LED on the device light up much like you did when you first connected the device.)
  7. Continue to receive alerts on your tank level to ensure you don’t run out and keep your house warm and happy throughout the year
